AI Engineer (AI, LangChain) (Johannesburg)

An international custom software solutions company solving real-world problems with innovative software and modern technology stacks seeks a highly skilled AI Engineer to design, build, and deploy scalable AI and Machine Learning solutions. You will work at the intersection of Data Engineering, DevOps, and Machine Learning, leveraging Generative AI and traditional ML frameworks to solve complex business problems while ensuring solutions are reliable, efficient, and secure.

Responsibilities:

• Design and implement end-to-end AI/ML pipelines (data ingestion → model deployment → monitoring)
• Build and optimise Generative AI applications using RAG architectures and LLM frameworks
• Develop and maintain scalable data processing workflows with big data tools
• Apply MLOps best practices for model lifecycle management, versioning, and automated deployment
• Collaborate with data scientists and stakeholders to translate business needs into technical solutions
• Ensure data quality, governance, and security across AI and data platforms

Qualifications and Experience:

• Programming: Expert-level Python (OOP, design patterns, async programming)
• AI and LLM Frameworks: LangChain, Langflow, AutoGen; building agents & orchestrating LLM workflows
• Generative AI: RAG, Vector Search (Pinecone, Chroma, Milvus), prompt engineering
• ML Engineering and MLOps: MLflow, Feature Stores, Model Serving (TFServing, TorchServe, KServe)
• Big Data: PySpark, Spark SQL, Delta Lake; Medallion Architecture & ETL/ELT modelling
• Data Governance and Quality: Unity Catalog, Great Expectations / Deequ
• Streaming and Orchestration: Apache Kafka, Spark Structured Streaming, Databricks Workflows, Apache Airflow
• BI & Visualization: Power BI, Tableau, Databricks SQL Dashboards
