Artisan Assistant

A leading red-meat processing company is looking for an experienced Artisan Assistant with strong expertise in general maintenance, including electrical, plumbing, and mechanical tasks, to join their team at their Cullinan facility. The role will involve supporting artisans and handymen in ensuring the smooth operation of critical equipment and infrastructure across the abattoir, feedlot, and processing plant. This position requires someone hands-on, reliable, and safety-conscious, with the ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced food production environment.

Responsibilities:

• Assist artisans and handymen with both planned and unplanned maintenance tasks.

• Execute preventive and corrective maintenance work efficiently.

• Ensure job cards are accurately completed and returned promptly.

• Respond swiftly to breakdowns, assisting with corrective actions.

• Maintain cleanliness and safety in maintenance areas at all times.

• Take ownership of assigned facility areas, ensuring they meet company standards.

• Report deviations from policies and procedures.

• Ensure high-quality work—no leaks (oil, water, compressed air) or rework.

• Be available for standby duty as per the roster and respond promptly.

• Complete standby forms with precise information.

Requirements:

• Grade 12.

• 1–3 years of general maintenance experience in an industrial (meat processing or similar) environment.

• Competence in electrical, piping and plumbing, and mechanical maintenance.

• Knowledge of OSH Act and food safety protocols.

• Valid driver’s license and own vehicle.

• Willingness to work overtime as needed.
