Hire Resolve’s client is looking for a Data Engineer to join their team in Johannesburg, GP.  A fintech company dedicated to making life simpler and more secure for African communities through innovative financial and technology solutions. You will play a key role in building and maintaining a modern data ecosystem that enables operational excellence and data-driven decision making. 

Responsibilities

  • Integrate and transform data from multiple internal and external sources.

  • Design, build, and maintain robust data pipelines and integration workflows.
  • Optimise data storage, transformation, and access across cloud and local environments.

  • Set up and maintain PostgreSQL databases and related environments.

  • Manage and transform large Excel datasets for operational use and reporting.

  • Automate reports and dashboards using AWS QuickSight, Excel, or similar tools.

  • Support clean data ingestion from ERP systems such as Odoo.

  • Collaborate with software engineers, analysts, and cross-functional teams to integrate and prioritise data needs.

  • Ensure high standards of data quality, documentation, and reproducibility.

  • Maintain data integrity, security, and version control.

  • Work in Linux-based environments (Ubuntu) and troubleshoot data operations issues.

  • Solve data challenges in resource-constrained or remote environments.

  • Stay adaptable to new tools and technologies, contributing to a culture of trust and strong internal data practices.

Requirements

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 4 years’ professional experience in a Data Engineering or Data Operations role.

  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to challenge assumptions.

  • Full proficiency in English.

  • Experience with cloud data platforms and storage solutions.

  • Knowledge of structured and unstructured data processing.

  • Familiarity with data security, access control, and governance.

  • Experience with ERP systems and data exports (e.g., Odoo).

  • Experience automating reports and building self-service dashboards.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in SQL and relational database design.

  • Strong Python programming skills.

  • Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL in production environments.

  • Knowledge of ETL/ELT principles and pipeline development.

  • Experience with orchestration tools (Apache Airflow, Dagster, or Prefect).

  • Familiarity with data transformation tools (dbt, Dataform).

  • Experience with reporting tools (e.g., AWS QuickSight).

  • Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform or AWS.

  • Comfortable working in Linux-based systems.
