A leading South African engineering consultancy specializing in civil and structural infrastructure projects, is currently seeking a Resident Engineer to join their Johannesburg office.


Responsibilities

As a Resident Engineer, you will be responsible for overseeing multiple civil engineering projects across various provinces. Your key duties will include:

  • Ensuring on-site project implementation adheres to quality, time, and cost requirements while complying with approved construction drawings, schedules, and specifications.

  • Serving as the primary on-site liaison for issue resolution between the Client, Office Personnel, and Contractor.

  • Developing and maintaining a comprehensive communication plan with Project Stakeholders.

  • Managing project documentation, including minutes of meetings, correspondence, and site office accounting activities.

  • Reviewing contractor claims, providing technical information, and making recommendations to the Client regarding cost, schedule, and quality.

  • Coordinating and supervising the coaching, mentoring, and training of junior site staff.

  • Ensuring compliance with quality assurance, legal, health, safety, and environmental standards.

  • Overseeing supply chain management compliance for procurement and supervision of contracted service providers, subconsultants, and specialists.

  • Assisting in the costing of civil engineering projects, including the compilation of tender documents.

  • Valuating Interim Payment Certificates and adjudicating Contractor’s Extension of Time claims.


Requirements

To be considered for this role, candidates should meet the following qualifications and experience:

  • BSc, BEng, or BTech in Civil Engineering.

  • Registration as a Professional Engineer/Technologist (Pr Eng/Pr Tech Eng/Pr Techni Eng) with ECSA is advantageous.

  • Minimum of 7 years’ relevant experience in construction project site supervision and project engineering.

  • Thorough working knowledge of specifications and Bill of Quantities (COLTO/COTO, SANS 1200, project-specific, etc.) and Conditions of Contract (SAICE GCC, FIDIC, NEC).

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Project (or similar programming software) and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
