As part of the establishment of its new Rustenburg City Campus, STADIO Higher Education invites applications for the position of IT Support Administrator. The successful candidate will provide responsive, customer-focused technical support to staff and students and help ensure the reliable operation of campus IT systems and services.

Assumption date: 04 January 2027Purpose of the role:

The IT Support Administrator will provide technical assistance and support to STADIO staff and students, resolve hardware and software issues, and support the smooth operation of IT systems at the campus.
The role requires strong technical problem-solving ability, clear communication and a customer-centered approach. The successful candidate will support end-users across multiple channels, maintain IT equipment and systems, manage user access, document support activities and contribute to the continuous improvement of IT services.

 Key roles and responsibilities

End-user support:

  • Provide technical assistance and support to staff and students by telephone, email, Microsoft Teams and in person.
  • Respond to support requests promptly and provide practical, user-friendly solutions.
  • Record, monitor and follow up on support requests to promote timely resolution and a positive user experience.

Hardware and software support:

  • Install, configure, troubleshoot and maintain desktops, laptops, printers and other IT equipment.
  • Configure and support operating systems and software applications.
  • Diagnose hardware and software faults and take appropriate corrective or escalation action.
  • Support the reliable functioning of equipment and applications with minimal disruption to users.

Network and telephony support:

  • Troubleshoot network connectivity issues affecting staff and students.
  • Support and maintain telephony hardware and software, including Microsoft Teams.
  • Escalate complex network or communication issues to the appropriate IT specialists.

User administration and security?:

  • Manage user accounts, permissions and access rights in accordance with IT policies and procedures.
  • Apply appropriate access controls and support secure, compliant user access management.
  • Promote user awareness of sound IT security practices.

System maintenance:

  • Perform routine maintenance, updates and monitoring of campus IT systems.
  • Support system performance, reliability and security through proactive checks and timely intervention.
  • Assist with the deployment and upkeep of approved Microsoft and other institutional technology solutions.

Documentation and knowledge management:

  • Record support activities, solutions and procedures accurately.
  • Maintain and use knowledge-base resources to improve the consistency and efficiency of issue resolution.
  • Contribute useful technical guidance and recurring issue solutions to shared IT documentation.

User training and guidance:

  • Provide practical training and guidance to staff and students on IT systems, applications and good practices.
  • Develop user confidence and help reduce recurring support requests.
  • Communicate technical information in clear, accessible language.

Team collaboration and continuous improvement:

  • Work collaboratively with IT colleagues to resolve escalated and complex technical issues.
  • Share technical knowledge and support effective problem resolution across the IT team.
  • Stay informed about emerging technologies, trends and Microsoft solutions.
  • Recommend practical improvements to IT services and support capabilities.

Minimum qualifications and experience

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree or diploma in Information Technology or a related field.
  • Relevant Microsoft certifications would be advantageous.

Experience:

  • Proven experience in an IT support role or a similar technical support environment.
  • Practical experience supporting end-users, hardware, software, network connectivity and user access would be advantageous.

Knowledge, skills and competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of Windows operating systems.
  • Knowledge of hardware, software and network troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Teams telephony systems.
  • Understanding of IT support processes, user access management and IT security good practices.
  • Strong technical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • A strong customer-service orientation.
  • The ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Attention to detail and sound documentation skills.
  • The ability to use knowledge-base resources effectively.
  • The ability to train and guide end-users.
