Lead Developer (Cape Town)

Job description

Quazar is seeking an experienced Lead Developer to provide strong technical leadership within our software development team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing technical delivery, ensuring that stakeholder requirements are translated into clear, actionable tasks, and driving high-quality software output across our platforms and applications.

This role focuses on hands-on development, architectural guidance, and leading team practices, not DevOps, though familiarity with deployment processes is required. The Lead Developer reports directly to the Head of Software Development.

Key Responsibilities

Technical leadership and delivery

• Lead the software development team from a technical perspective, ensuring alignment with business and stakeholder requirements.
• Translate requirements/specifications into well-structured technical tasks and deliverables.
• Provide architectural direction and make design decisions for new and existing systems.
• Maintain high engineering standards through best practices, clean coding principles, and efficient solution design.

Software Development and Code Quality

• Contribute to hands-on development across the stack (Angular, PHP, .NET C#, MySQL).
• Ensure code reviews are performed thoroughly, consistently, and constructively.
• Champion adherence to SDLC processes and coding standards.
• Mentor developers, provide feedback, and support their professional growth.

Agile and Process Management

• Participate in and guide Agile ceremonies (Scrum), including sprint planning, retrospectives, and stand-ups.
• Work closely with the head of Software Development to refine processes, improve velocity, and ensure predictable delivery.
• Identify blockers, risks, or technical debt and proactively resolve or escalate.

Deployments and Environment Management

• Coordinate smooth deployment processes across AWS, IIS, and Linux environments.
• Work with the team to ensure applications are packaged, tested, and released without disruption.
• Collaborate with Infrastructure/DevOps support where required (though heavy AWS expertise is not necessary).

Stakeholder Collaboration

• Work with internal stakeholders to understand requirements, clarify technical approaches, and provide realistic timelines.
• Communicate technical concepts effectively to technical and non-technical audiences.

Required Skills and Experience

• Proven experience as a Lead Developer, Technical Lead, or similar senior role.
• Strong programming expertise in(or the ability and willingness to quickly adapt to):
• Angular

• JavaScript
• CSS
• HTML
• Solid understanding of application architecture, design patterns, and scalable system design.
• Demonstrated experience leading technical teams and guiding junior developers.
• Deep understanding of SDLC, Agile, and Scrum methodologies.
• Hands-on experience with deployment processes across AWS, IIS, and Linux environments.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
