Media Relations Manager (Fourways)

The media relations Manager position requires an individual who is on the pulse with the news of the day and understands the local and regional media landscape and different media channels.

The role involves developing and implementing targeted media relations strategies, research, writing, planning and identifying relevant media opportunities for positioning newsworthy stories about clients, and executing all media, public relations and advertising campaigns.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement media relations strategy
• Spearhead ideation to develop newsworthy angles for media placement
• Develop content, press releases and other related articles
• Respond to media queries, including collecting relevant information and identifying spokespeople to respond to media queries
• Analyse Brand performance and compile thorough, accurate results and activity reports
• Reputation management
• Maintain a keen interest and understanding of industry trends across the different industries.
• Cultivate and enhance collaborative working relationships within the media and public relations (PR) community
• Manage the flow of news between the organisation and media
• Gather and disseminate timely information to the media and clients
• Manage deadlines and make sure to adhere to deadlines

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree/diploma in journalism, marketing communications or related field
• Three or more years of agency experience in a similar position
• Understanding of the South African media landscape and media ownership
• Excellent written, verbal communication
• Ability to translate complex or technical information for different audiences
• Time management
• Ability to work on multiple tasks
• Interpersonal communications skills
• Must be multilingual
• Great Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, and Word skills
• Ability to foster relationships with members of the media
• Critical thinker with strong conceptual and research skills
• A natural leader who displays strong decision-making and attention to detail
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Ability to develop appropriate broadcast, print, and online media content
• Passion for media engagement
• Expert at targeted communications and advertising campaigns across various media platforms.
