Metropolitan Life is inviting unemployed South African youth to apply for its 12-month Learnership Programme starting in October 2026.

The opportunities are available in Port Elizabeth, Mthatha, King Williams Town, Soweto/West Rand and Mafikeng. Successful learners will gain workplace experience in the insurance industry while working towards a Wealth Management NQF Level 4 qualification.

About the Metropolitan Learnership Programme

The programme is aimed at unemployed young people who are interested in building a career in the insurance industry, particularly in areas involving sales and customer service.

Over the 12-month programme, learners will receive workplace exposure and have the opportunity to obtain a Wealth Management NQF Level 4 qualification.

Learners will also have the opportunity to gain knowledge and experience from professionals within the insurance industry.

Minimum Requirements

To qualify for the Metropolitan Learnership Programme, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Grade 12 or an equivalent NQF Level 4 qualification
  • Be between the ages specified for the particular location
  • Be a South African citizen by birth
  • Be unemployed
  • Belong to a previously disadvantaged group

Learnership Duties and Responsibilities

Successful learners will be expected to participate in both theoretical learning and workplace activities.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Completing theoretical learning and assessments
  • Completing administrative and reporting duties related to the role
  • Collating, compiling and distributing documents according to required standards
  • Completing tasks within defined time frames
  • Attending to queries professionally
  • Providing a positive client experience
  • Supporting the achievement of client service level agreements
  • Screening and routing queries to the appropriate stakeholders
  • Assisting with the resolution of client queries
  • Maintaining relevant office housekeeping standards
