News Anchor (Johannesburg)

Job description

To plan, write, compile and deliver news bulletins in keeping with EWN brand.

• Identify lead stories
• Write up stories
• Subbing news stories
• Compile news bulletins
• Record and edit audio
• Ensure quality scripts and audio
• Read news bulletin
• Do live crossings with reporters
• Work directly with the online team
• Meet tight deadlines
• Report on local and national news events
• Develop and maintain contacts
• Effective supervision of news vehicles

Minimum required qualification:

• Diploma/degree in journalism or relevant work experience

Minimum years of experience:

• Minimum of 3 years’ experience

Additional role requirements:

• Some travel
• Valid driver’s license
• Needs to have covered a wide range of stories
• Needs an excellent network of contacts
• Needs to be well respected as a journalist
• Needs to be passionate about news and setting the news agenda in the industry
• Current affairs - local, national, international news
• Good political contacts - constantly updated on news, newspapers, radio news, internet, TV news
• Excellent reading and writing skills in English
• Excellent radio voice
• Excellent interviewing skills
• Ability to meet half hourly deadlines
• Digital editing knowledge
• Have a keen "news sense"
• Applicant needs to be a self-starter, able to deliver under minimal supervision
• Willing to learn all aspects of EWN – from anchoring to reporting to online.
• Ability to work on social networking sites and contribute to www.ewn.co.za
