Job Purpose

Embark on a 12-month learning journey designed to build practical experience and develop relevant skills in line with the Customs & Excise Operations Cadet Programme.

To successfully complete the SARS Customs Cadet Learnership Programme in order to gain exposure, develop skills and knowledge, and contribute to the effective delivery of Customs & Excise operations.

Education and Experience

Minimum Qualification & Experience Required

  • NQF Level 4 with Mathematics and or Accounting
  • 1 years’ experience in an administration/ logistics/ customer service environment
  • South African Citizen.
  • Valid driver’s licence (Code B/EB).
  • Willingness to work shifts, weekends, public holidays and overtime where operational requirements demand.
  • Willingness to be deployed nationally to Customs operational environments, including land border posts in remote areas, airports, seaports and inland operational offices.
  • Willingness to undergo security screening, criminal record checks, qualification verification and integrity assessments.
  • Physically fit and able to work in an operational environment.
  • Computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Age criteria: 18 – 35 years to specifically attract the youth

Minimum Functional Requirements

Must have a basic overview of some Customs & Excise environment.

  • Apply and utilise systems in a manner that ensures accurate processing of information that contributes to efficient and effective completion of tasks.
  • Assist with administrative tasks within the relevant division.
  • Attend to information requests received and send to the relevant department to source information.
  • Communication of transactional outputs and queries in area of work. 
  • Deliver on contracted performance objectives according to set procedures and agreed service level agreements.

  • Ensure quality of work content, minimise mistakes and continuously improve quality and standards.

  • Follow and adhere to individual learner activity manual for the division or business unit.
  • Identify and analyse type of information requested.
  • Identify problems, apply known solutions in line with procedures or guidelines and escalate unresolved problems.
  • Keep up to date records of completed work.
  • Plan and organise own work in an effective and efficient manner to reach agreed performance objectives.
  • Report on transactional activity progression within set guidelines to provide timely information for decision making in area of accountability.
