Cape Town based NPO Ladles of Love is looking for an experienced and mission-driven individual to manage their food waste sustainability project – Feed The Soil.
This role requires a combination of business acumen, agricultural knowledge, and strong community engagement skills to effectively lead the programme and achieve its goals.
Key responsibilities:
- Develop and implement the overall strategic plan for the FTS programme;
- Identify and assess opportunities for programme growth and expansion;
- Develop and manage the programme budget, ensuring financial sustainability;
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the FTS programme including our weekly pop-up stalls;
- Manage and coordinate all programme activities, including vegetable production, distribution, and community engagement.
- Train, supervise, and mentor programme staff and volunteers.
- Stay up-to-date on agricultural trends and climate issues;
- Build and maintain strong relationships with local farmers, community organizations and beneficiaries;
- Identify and address community needs related to food security and sustainable agriculture;
- Identify and pursue funding opportunities, including grants and partnerships;
- Monitor programme expenses and revenue, and ensure accurate financial reporting;
- Develop and implement strategies for income generation and cost-effectiveness;
- Visit and liaise with farmers to secure produce and build strong working relationships;
- Be comfortable and able to travel to, and work within township environments;
- Understand the specific needs and challenges of farmers and communities in these areas;
- Maintain and update social media pages and produce weekly newsletter;
- Confident in doing radio interviews, podcast interviews and addressing forums;
- Regular reporting on qualitative and quantitative data;
- Build and maintain relationship with local restaurants;
- Prepare regular reports on programme activities, progress, and impact for Ladles of Love management and stakeholders.
Skills and qualifications:
- Proven experience in a management role, preferably in a non-profit or agricultural setting.
- Strong business acumen and financial management skills.
- Bachelor degree in Agriculture and Plant Science.
- In-depth knowledge of vegetable production and sustainable agricultural practices.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
- Ability to build and maintain strong relationships 1 with diverse stakeholders
