Job Description

ROLE OVERVIEW:

To manufacture, repair, maintain and refurbish mechanical components and equipment used in fishing operations, cold storage facilities, and marine vessels.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1. Machining and Fabrication

Operate conventional and/or CNC lathes, milling machines, drilling machines, and grinding equipment.
Manufacture and repair shafts, bushes, sleeves, bearings, pulleys, couplings, and other mechanical components.
Perform precision measurements using micrometers, verniers, dial indicators, and other measuring instruments.

2. Maintenance and Repairs

Conduct maintenance and repair work on fish processing equipment and factory machinery.
Assist with breakdown repairs to minimize operational downtime.
Refurbish worn mechanical components to extend equipment life.
Support planned maintenance activities in accordance with maintenance schedules.

3. Vessel and Marine Support

Carry out machining and repair work on vessel components where required.
Repair shafts, pump components, winch parts, hydraulic system components, and other marine equipment.
Assist during vessel maintenance periods and dry-docking activities

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

Grade Test Certificate as a Turner Artisan (Red Seal preferred).
Grade 12 / Matric.
Minimum 3 to 5 years’ post-trade experience in a marine, fishing, or engineering environment.
Experience operating conventional lathes and milling machines.
Marine or fishing industry experience will be advantageous.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS/KNOWLEDGE

Mechanical maintenance principles.
Engineering drawings and technical specifications.
Precision measurement techniques.
Occupational Health and Safety Act requirements.
Basic welding and fabrication knowledge advantageous
