Accountant: Digital Advertising (Cape Town)

Job description

• Prepare monthly management accounts, journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations in Sage X3.
• Manage month-end close processes, ensuring accurate reporting within agreed deadlines.
• Reconcile advertising bookings, client billings, revenue and credit notes recorded in Naviga to Sage X3, investigating and resolving discrepancies.
• Reconcile advertising expenditure across Meta, Google Ads and other social media and digital advertising platforms.
• Account for campaign budgets, prepaid advertising balances, accruals, refunds, credits and foreign currency transactions.
• Reconcile platform billing statements and payment transactions to the general ledger.
• Ensure advertising revenue and campaign costs are recognized accurately and in the correct reporting period.
• Work with sales, campaign and operational teams to reconcile client billings, campaign delivery and related costs.
• Monitor campaign profitability, budget variances and unbilled expenditure.
• Support cash flow forecasting and payment planning for advertising accounts.
• Maintain supporting documentation, strengthen financial controls and prepare schedules for internal and external audits.
• Identify opportunities to improve reporting, automate reconciliations and streamline financial processes across Sage X3, Naviga and advertising platforms.

Requirements

• A relevant degree or diploma in accounting or finance.
• Audit articles experience, with a solid grounding in financial reporting, reconciliations and internal controls.
• Strong practical accounting knowledge and experience managing the full accounting cycle.
• Demonstrated accounting experience within digital advertising, paid media or a media agency environment.
• Practical experience using Sage X3 ERP and Naviga advertising systems, including financial reporting and reconciliation of advertising transactions.
• Experience dealing with Meta and other social media platforms, including billing queries, account reconciliations and payment discrepancies.
• Understanding of digital advertising billing models, campaign structures and media buying processes.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Knowledge of VAT and the accounting treatment of cross-border digital advertising transactions.
• Experience working across multiple entities would be advantageous.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate large volumes of transaction data.
• Excellent attention to detail and a disciplined approach to reconciliations.
• Ability to trace transactions between advertising systems and the general ledger, identifying missing, duplicate or incorrectly allocated entries.
• Sound commercial awareness and an understanding of campaign margins and cost recovery.
• Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively with finance and non-finance teams.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities and reporting deadlines.
• A proactive approach to resolving issues and improving processes.
• High levels of integrity, accountability and confidentiality.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate large volumes of transaction data.
• Excellent attention to detail and a disciplined approach to reconciliations.
