Are you passionate about news, digital media and storytelling?
Caxton Local Media Durban is looking for a dynamic Digital Coordinator to join our team.

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the editor and newsroom team to produce engaging content
  • Drive a culture of strong digital storytelling
  • Guide journalists to pitch and produce stories that are aligned with current trends
  • Ensure content is optimised for digital performance, including SEO and platform relevance
  • Identify when content is not performing and implement strategies to improve.
  • Play a key role in campaigns such as Best of Durban, SPAR Stars and other branch initiatives
  • Assist in developing campaign strategies, compiling video content and writing scripts
  • Stay on top of digital trends and ensure these are implemented effectively within the newsroom
  • Identify news opportunities and source relevant, compelling content
  • Assist with staff training and upskilling in digital best practices
  • Improve workflow processes and drive efficiencies within the newsroom
  • Analyse digital performance
  • Monitor and manage content
  • Oversee and engage with social media platforms and audience interaction
  • Ensure content complies with editorial standards and industry regulations
  • Collaborate with digital and print sales teams
  • Stay on top of digital trends and ensure these are implemented effectively within the newsroom
  • Support and help manage digital projects

Requirements:

  • Journalism experience with a passion for news, storytelling and digital innovation
  • Exceptional command of the English language, with strong editorial judgement
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, with the ability to guide and influence newsroom output
  • Ability to subedit content quickly and accurately, and work under pressure to tight deadlines
  • Strong understanding of online and social media platforms, trends and audience behaviour
  • Proven ability to identify, interpret and act on digital trends
  • Basic design and video editing skills, with working knowledge of tools such as Canva, InShot and CapCut
  • Strong understanding of SEO, content optimisation and digital best practices
  • CMS and WordPress experience
  • Understanding of analytics tools such as Google analytics and social media insights
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work across departments and branches
  • Ability to multitask, manage deadlines and remain organised in a high pressure environment
