Black Camel Agency · Remote · Full-time · Market-related, based on experience

A hands-on maker with their own flair, who can move between 3D, 2D, motion and AI and make it feel like one thing. Read the requirements before you apply.
Who we are

Black Camel makes video for B2B technology companies working on products you can't easily film: encryption, a fraud signal, an identity check, the workings of an AI platform. Things with no picture, until someone invents one. Most video in that world looks identical - the floating UI, the drone shot, the soft synth, the smiling team around a laptop. We do the opposite.

Our belief is simple. Clear gets you understood. Distinctive gets you remembered. Every piece we make earns its place with at least one of four things: a metaphor, a quirk, a register of subtle humour, or a look nobody else in the category has used. That standard is the job.
The role

This is a hands-on making seat, and it's remote. You build work day to day, close to our Creative Director and the Cape Town studio.

Most of the time you'll be making work with our CD, bringing your own flair to it. In some cases you'll get the chance to take a project on your own, concept to close. We want a maker with a voice, not a pair of hands.

Ideally you're all over the tools, and genuinely on top of AI - using what's out there to make work that stands out rather than blends in.

The work runs across a range. Some weeks it is a batch of clean 4K pieces that need turning around well and fast. Other weeks it is a launch film that has to push - the kind a buyer remembers eight months later when they finally come into market. You need to be good at both ends of that.

The studio's visual signature - live action, 3D, 2D, motion, stop-motion texture and AI elements combined into one cinematic style - is what we are building our name on. You are one of the people who builds it, and helps shape where it goes.
What you must be able to do

This is the gate. This is a skilled role and the bar is high.

  • After effects, cold. Fluent and fast. Compositing, expressions, clean keyframing, not template assembly.
  • Design fundamentals. Composition, typography, colour, layout. This is design-led motion. If the stills aren't beautiful, the motion won't be either.
  • Mixed media, combined convincingly. Take live action, 2D, motion, texture, 3D and AI-generated elements and make them feel like one deliberate style, not a pile of techniques. Often that means integrating live action so it sits inside the same world as the animation.
  • A cinematic eye. Pacing, restraint, framing, craft. You know when to hold a shot and when less is the answer. Effects for the sake of effects is a fail.
  • Fluent across the toolset. You keep up with what's new and reach for the right tool, including AI, without leaning on it as a crutch that makes the work look like everyone else's.
  • Range and speed. Deliver a clean batch piece quickly and a hero piece brilliantly, and know which mode you're in.
  • Your own creative voice. Ideas, taste, a point of view. Enough flair that the work is unmistakably yours, and enough sense to collaborate on the CD's brief.

Don't apply if

  • Your reel is mostly character animation, rigging, creatures, games or film VFX. It's excellent work and it's the wrong craft for this seat.
  • You're a deep specialist in one discipline and can't move across mixed media.
  • You want to direct or oversee rather than build the work with your own hands. This is a making role, whether the idea is yours or the CD's.
  • Your motion is stock templates, plug-ins and MOGRTs dressed up.

Why this one is worth it

You get to bring your own ideas to real launches for serious technology brands, help define a visual style the studio is becoming known for, and work alongside a creative director whose taste sets the bar. There is room here to make work you would be proud to put your name on, the chance to lead your own projects in time, and to grow as the studio does.
The details

  • Remote. Full-time.
  • Working closely with our creative director and the Cape Town studio.
  • Over summer the Cape Town team often works together from a shared co-working space. You're welcome there if you're in the city, but the role is remote either way.
  • Market-related salary, based on experience.

How to apply

Send your reel and a short note on the work you are proudest of to ycnega.lemackcalb@nager Lead with the link. The reel does the talking, so put your most distinctive mixed media work first, not your longes his is the gate. This is a skilled role and the bar is high.
