We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Business Development Specialist / Executive Broker to join our team in Bedfordview within the Short-Term Insurance Brokerage industry. In this executive-level role, we are looking for a professional with 15–20 years of Commercial and Corporate insurance experience and exceptional business development skills. This is a key position where you will drive portfolio growth, expand our corporate client base, and deliver tailored risk and insurance solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Drive Business Growth: Identify, develop, and convert new commercial and corporate insurance opportunities to expand the client portfolio.

  • Client Portfolio Management: Manage a book of high-value commercial and corporate clients, ensuring exceptional service, retention, and growth.

  • Tailored Insurance Solutions: Structure and deliver bespoke short-term insurance products that meet complex commercial and corporate client needs.

  • Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with key decision-makers and stakeholders within client organisations.

  • Market Intelligence: Monitor industry trends, competitor activity, and regulatory changes to proactively adapt business strategies.

  • Sales Strategy Implementation: Develop and execute targeted business development strategies to achieve revenue and profitability targets.

  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with underwriting, claims, and operational teams to ensure smooth client servicing and risk management.

  • Compliance & Risk: Ensure all activities comply with regulatory requirements (RE1, COB) and internal company policies.

  • Reporting & Analytics: Provide regular reports on business performance, pipeline development, and client activity to senior management.

  • Mentorship & Leadership: Guide and support junior brokers or team members where applicable, fostering knowledge transfer and best practices.

Qualifications & Regulatory Requirements

  • Regulatory Examination (RE1)

  • NQF Level 5: Higher Certificate in Short-Term Insurance (minimum)

  • NQF Level 6: Diploma in Short-Term Insurance (advantageous)

  • NQF Level 7: BCom in Short-Term Insurance / Risk / Insurance & Risk Management (preferred / executive-level)

  • Class of Business (COB) Certification in:

    • Short-Term Insurance: Commercial Lines

    • Short-Term Insurance: Corporate / Specialist Risk

Experience

  • 15 – 20 years progressive experience in short-term insurance, with a strong focus on Commercial and Corporate clients

  • Demonstrated success in building and managing large, complex client portfolios

  • Proven track record of executive-level sales and business development in insurance/reinsurance

  • Experience engaging with executives, boards, and senior stakeholders in client organisations

  • Deep industry relationships across corporate South Africa
