We are looking for a curious, driven and commercially aware journalist to join the editorial team working across Travel News and Tourism Update.

This is business-to-business journalism for the travel and tourism trade. Our readers are travel agents, tour operators, suppliers, tourism bodies and other industry professionals who rely on us for accurate, timely and practical industry news.

The role will suit someone who enjoys writing, asking questions, speaking to people, learning an industry, and turning developments into clear, useful stories for a professional audience.

What you will do

You will:

  • Write daily news articles for a trade audience;
  • Identify story ideas from industry developments, press releases, interviews, events and your own research;
  • Interview suppliers, associations, tourism organisations and other industry stakeholders;
  • Help explain developments that affect the travel and tourism trade;
  • Attend industry events, launches and press briefings when required;
  • Work with editors to improve story angles, structure and accuracy;
  • Meet editorial deadlines and contribute to a consistent news flow.

What we are looking for

We are looking for someone with:

  • a bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, English, English literature, media studies, politics, economics, history, law, business, tourism or another relevant field;
  • at least two years’ workplace experience, preferably in journalism, communications, marketing, content, media, PR, research or a related environment;
  • strong writing ability and an excellent command of English;
  • curiosity and the confidence to contact people, ask questions and follow up;
  • the ability to understand business issues and explain them clearly;
  • strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy;
  • good organisation and the ability to work to deadlines;
  • professional communication skills;
  • willingness to learn the travel and tourism trade.

A journalism degree is not essential, but applicants should be able to demonstrate writing ability. Published work, writing samples, articles, newsletters, reports or other relevant content will be helpful.

Advantageous

The following would be helpful but are not essential:

  • experience in journalism, trade media or B2B content;
  • experience interviewing people or dealing with external stakeholders;
  • understanding of the travel, tourism or aviation sectors;
  • valid driver’s licence and own transport.
